Is it required to make as starter for Whitelabs yeast?
Does it make a big difference if you do it or not? What do you do?

It's not required but it is recommended. I don't think it makes a big difference in lower alcohol brews. I make a starter.

I always make a start with liquid yeast, just to make sure they're as healthy as possible. I'd especially do it if you have anything that starts to go above 1.060 for the gravity, or if you had your yeast shipped to you (may have encountered some warm conditions and killed some off). Never hurts to make a starter for any reason though =)

Many here at HBT would suggest a starter, myself included. Look at mrmalty.com for lots of info on yeasts and pitch rates. As you advance through brewing these issues will become a prime concern. Good luck and have a great brew.
