Default If kept refrigerated.. Yeast.

I have yeast that is probably 8-9 months old.

1 smackpack and 1 tube, several packets of safeale(sp?) the dried yeast.

They have both been in the fridge since then and while most likely past the expiration date I hesitate to toss them.

Past the expiration date means they are no longer viable?

Can I try to use them or would they impart a bad taste in the brews I'm going to make?

Should I bust them out at brewing time and drop them in a cup of wort and see what they do? (make a starter)

Thanks
Jake

Making a starter is most definitely a proper course of action, since the viability will be compromised given the age.

The dry yeast is likely ok, so no starter necessary.
