I just did my first All-Grain English Pale Ale. My first runnings were VERY cloudy even after the vourlouft (spelling?). Is this normal, or did something go wrong in the mash?
Also, my OG was 10 points higher than my target!!! I'm new at this...I hope my mash worked- I lost some temp along the way after my protein break.

The runnings are usually really cloudy, until after the boil starts and you get a good "hot break" and then when you get a cold "cold break" while chilling. After the break material coagulates is when you see the clear wort.

Watch the boil too! I have found that more turbidity of the wort the bigger a problem my boil overs were. Haven't had as big a problem since clarifying my wort better in the mash.
