Hey guys (and gals),
I had a quick question about converting all grain recipes to extract. I have a recipe for a Pale Ale that calls for 95% 2-row, 3% C-75, and 2% C-55 for a 153 deg. mash to obtain a 1.055 O.G. I was wondering how I convert this to use DME for the base and still keep the crystal additions as grain. Would you use light vs. ultra-light DME? Thanks for your help.

This is the way I understand the conversion ratios. Your OG is 1.055 so you drop the first 2 numbers to get 55. Then multiply 55 by the batch size. Let's assume 5 gallons. 55 X 5 = 275 gravity points. Gravity points from DME = 46 per pound\gallon..... so divide 275 by 46 = 5.9. 6 pounds ought to make the conversion ratio. You can just steep the Crystal malt for the remainder of the recipe.
