Default Anyone used the Home Depot water test

I am moving to all grain, getting my first ingrediants on tuesday. I have a well as my water source, and a water softener. Im looking to test my water to see what additives I may need to use, or if I should be buying water. I found this water test kit at home depot for 10 bucks, but wasnt sure if it is any good. Has anyone tried it?

Your link didn't work for me and a search on the home depot website for "water test" didn't get it.

I think I fixed it here^

It doesn't tell you Na, Mg, and most importantly (IMO) SO4. I'd send your water to ward labs, it doesn't cost that much. That's what I did.

+1 to Ward Lbs. Great service for a small price.

should I send them water from before or after the softener. The main line comes in directly to the softener so Getting water from upstream would be difficult to impossible. I would assume that I need to get it from after the softener as that is where I can actually get water from.

Whichever you intend to use for brewing. General advice is to not use softened water for brewing, though. Softeners often use ion exchange which can add an unacceptable level of sodium to your water.
