I would like to brew a Garlic Beer. Not sure of template though... Should I attempt an ale or lager or jump straight into a stout?

Oh, and a stout.....is an ale.

There are two types of beers, ALES and LAGERS, and within each category are different styles. A stout is a style of ale. A pilsner, or a vienna lager, is a style of lager. The major difference between the tow is that an ale yeast is a top fermenting, warm temp yeast, while a lager is a bottom fermenting cold temp yeast.

Here's a good breakdown of the various styles....http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/catdex.php

Thank you for the info. I am also inquiring of how the garlic should be applied.. crushed, minced, pulverized...... and thank you, yes Stout is a version of Ale... I really like Ale so I offered that in the initial inquiry as a separate entity cuz i'm weird

You have to be weird to want to make a garlic beer...I love garlic, but the only thing I would want to do with garlic beer would be to boil brats in it. ;)

But beyond that thread you may be on your own, however you may want to check out the garlic wine threads.

And take you cue as to how to handle it with their advice.

Oh boy... I think you're onto something there Revvy! Batch of garlic beer strictly for boiling brats. I think that would go over quite well while tailgating here in Cleveland. Might even be able to get a drunk Browns fan to drink it!
