Is this a common practice? I was thinking it could be used to really make your recipes more original. Is it a bad idea to throw two different types of yeast into the same 5 gal batch at the same time? Could it create a blended new flavor?

Shonuff. I made a winter warmer with lager, ale and hefe yeast. Turned out wackified, but great. Nice full ale fruitiness, with a nice crisp lager finish.

I did it with my Bock and, while it is still conditioning, the samples I've tasted turned out great! I reused this yeast 'blend' on my Wild Rice Lager. They were very similar strains, Wyeast 2206 Bavarian Lager and 2308 Munich Lager.

White labs has done something similar for awhile now. Check out their WLP060 and WLP575!
