Freezer question

I had a temperature regulator connected to a freezer of mine. Had it set for 48F and it stayed at that temperature. After about a week the freezer went up to 55f, still connected to the regulator at this time. So I desided to unplug the regulator and see if something is just wrong with the freezer. Its been unplugged now for 2 days still at 55f. I was hoping to use this freezer to lager an oktoberfest I brewed, any idea what i need to do to fix this or do I need to call a repair man?

Perhaps the beer in the freezer is helping keep it cool? Has the compressor ran at all since two days ago?

Why not turn it down and see what it does?
