Summer is killing me for fermenting. My Pumpkin is plugging away at 78 degrees via liquid crystal thing on the outside of the carboy. I pitched at 68. I just wrapped at tshirt around it with ice packs, best I can do. Am I DOOMED!!! OG was 1.078 if that matters.

If you can keep it at 68 for a few days it will be fine.

Impossible. Been going all day at the current temp. 72 would be a miracle but possible. Should I stick a thermometer in the beer?

72 is doable. You can stick a sanitized thermometer in the airlock to get the real fermantation temp.

If you can get some kind of a water bath with ice and the shirt you probably could get it lower.

You'll probably have some fruity esters, but the fusels won't be too bad.
