- Was cloudier than Bell's Two Hearted Ale.
My clone of Bell's Two Hearted Ale.
Brewed 8/23/08
12 lbs. Briess Pilsen DME
1 lb. 2-row
2 lbs. vienna
2 lbs. munich
1 lb. crystal 10L
1 lb. carapils
1 lb. wheat
Partial mash @ 152F for 60 mins.
Centennial: whole leaf @ unknown %AA (assumed 9%)
2 oz. @ 60 min.
1 oz @ 15 min.
1 oz. @ 10 min.
1 oz. @ 5 min.
2 oz. @ 0 min.
2 oz. dry hop in primary
Kegged after 3 weeks in primary.
Compared it tonight. I thought I remembered Two Hearted Ale being cloudy (but I now realize it was because I poured the yeast and all into my glass before). That is why I added the 1# wheat to the grain bill.
Here are some pics (Bell's is the clear one, Baron's is the cloudy one).

(Baron's on left side)
Head started out great on both beers.
(Baron's on left side again)
Then the Baron's head started to dwindle. (Baron's on right side now)
(Baron's back on left side)
The color was pretty close (the first pic above shows more of a discrepancy than the eye does and the later pics). I'll add some more crystal 10L next time, I think.
Flavor was excellent (for both!), but the Centennials I used were getting kind of old, so the hop aroma and flavor is very slighty lacking compared to Bell's.
Carbonation level of the Bell's seemed quite a bit more than Baron's. Baron's was carbed at 40F @ 12psi for 2.5 weeks. Both were poured at 40F and approximately 6 mins. elapsed from first pic to last.
I will definitely be adding this to my often brewed lineup!
