I don't like mine. I like the stand but it needs a better burner. Mine gets a bad gas/air mix.

No issues here. Bring 7.5g to a boil with no issues, and maintains the boil with minimum propane use. The stand will hold a keg with no issues also.

I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but are there any reviews on the Bayou Classic SP10?

I have it and love it. I've used both burners (buddy has the SQ-14). The SP-10 in my opinion is much better. Gets the boil going faster and takes little to maintain it. I get 5 batches per 20lbs tank of propane. I have never used it wide open though because I have never needed to.

I got the SP-10 recently and I love it (not saying it's better than the SQ14, though, since I haven't tried that one). It's very powerful, and able to maintain a vigorous boil with the flame turned down low. It's noisy, but I'm using it outside, so that's not really a problem. $50 at Northern Brewer when I got it last month. Two enthusiastic thumbs up from me!

They are both good burners for the price. I prefer the SQ14 because of its square frame. The SQ14 is more efficient but will generally take a little longer to get your water up to temp initially. The SP10 is less efficient and will use more propane, but also has a higher maximum output for getting your water up to temp more quickly.

So how do you guys modify the SP10 to hold a keggle? Also not trying to hijack the thread, but I have one of the typical cheap burners right now (kinda looks like sp10,) but isn't. I was doing my 5 gallon boils in a 80 quart pot. I know thats huge, but it was all I had until i built my keggle. Anyways, the burner never got a rolling boil going. Do you think I will have better luck with my keggle? It's a 15 gallon keg btw.

own it love it - I am a 5 gallon all grain brewer - I have the risers and it puts my Polareware pot at the perfect level to drain into a 6.5 carboy

+1 on th SP-10. The stand is higher, making it easier to use than the SQ-14 IMHO. I am just now making a keggle, so can't vouch for how it fits on the 10 though.

I have the SQ-14, I think it is great, however, heating times on a 10 gallon batch which for me is 13 gallons pre-boil takes a while, even if I begin heating my runnings as I collect them. Beyond that it is a very stable burner, and gets the job done, I have no qualms with it for 5 gallon batches ~8 gallon pre-boil volume.

Do you use a keggle?

No I have a tri-clad flat bottomed kettle, I have to run the burner at full blast for a good 45-50 minutes to get 13 gallons to a boil. Having said that, I have yet to fashion a wind shield for it.

I know a lot of guys use the bayou classic SQ14 posted here : http://http://bayouclassicdepot.com/sq14_propane_burner.htm
and have good results, but how well do these work for 10 gallon batches in a keggle?

Should I just pay the extra money and buy a Banjo KAB4 posted here:

I know these work good with keggles and that keggles fit on top with no modification.

So which one should i get?

Do you know that a keggle doesn't fit on the 10??

A keggle fits great on the 10. just lay your bbq grate over the burner, then the keggle on top of that.
A very, very minor inconvenience for a great burner.

Yeah, the cheap burner I have now is similar to that and I have a grate from our smoker that I use. Very easy to do. I just think that With the 10 that I will get a more uniform boil b/c it's flame covers a larger surface area. I've heard that they are just overkill, but Idk. Other people have said that they can get a 12 gallon batch up to boil with the 14 no problem. I think that the classic may be the way to go, but since I'm quite impatient, it's hard for me to decide.

I figured there was a solution. Where there is a will there is a way!

A solution to the fact the the 10 is too small of a diameter to set a keggle on directly. The solution is to add a grate--right?

Thats what I do with the one I have now. It's not as scary as it sounds b/c the weight of the keggle makes it pretty secure.

Made my keggle last weekend, and you are correct, doesn't quite fit on the 10. Fits like a charm on the 14. Guess I'll be looking for a grate.....

which one do you have?

I have both. Well, more accurately, I own the SP-10 and friend has brought over the SQ-14. The 10 does not fit a keggle, plain and simple. It fits under the bottom lip which is dangerous and renders the vent holes ineffective. it fits just fine on the 14, which of course is a square rather than a circle.

I've been doing ten gallons batches in my keggle and the 14 has been just fine. Its not as powerful, but it doesn't really take that long to bring 12-13 gallons to a boil. I'd say 30 minutes max. I'm sure the 10 would be much quicker, but until I get a grate to lay across it I'll stick with the squared stability of the 14.
