I'm putting together a RIMS heater for the Keggle mash tun and have a question I have not seen addressed.

Would it be recommended to insulate the Keggle when using the RIMS?

I want to direct heat the strike water in the keggle before mashing in.

Thanks,

Greg

Yes. During the colder months the RIMS may/will have trouble keeping temperatures (Stainless kegs are horrible at keeping in heat). Mine is insulated with a jacket I made out of a water heater blanket. I use another keggle as a HLT for my strike and sparge water. If your going to direct fire the tun for the strike water you'll need to come up with some kind of fire proof insulation material.

Thanks for the advice and I'll insulate it. I'm thinking of trying some of the silver insulation matereal they sell at Lowes and make it so I can slip in on the keg after I fire it.

Again, Thanks
