Anyone ever used these, or object to using them?? A friend and i are brewing regularly now and we need more fermenters. He works at Vermont Pure a local water company and has a somewhat endless supply of these bottles. We have a batch in one now and its working great. Any thoughts??? :rockin:

If you're planning on doing a full 5 gallons, you'll need a blow-off tube and/or plan on only doing 4 gallons, leaving head-space for kreusen. Otherwise, they're great as secondaries.

Look at the bottom for the recycle symbol. #1's are perfect. #7's may work as a primary but are O2 permeable so 2ndary is problematic.

Any other symbol = junk.

You've got to make sure that they are PET. There are #'s on the bottom that will tell you what type of plastic the things is made up of. I'm not sure what the #'s are, but if you do a search here this has been discussed before. If it is not PET, it is not suitable for fermentation because it will allow oxygen to diffuse through the plastic and that will kill your beer.
