So my wife and I just made our first batch of beer earlier today. We followed the directions closely. The yeast activated quickly, and the airlock is bubbling nicely. however, I'm concerned about yeast. I've worked with yeast before and have never seen it look like this. My only guess would be that the green mossy stuff is hops residue? (the directions did not say to strain the hops - we just dumped them into the wort). Or has the yeast turned a green color? We used Monster Brew's True Amber Ale kit.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Your guess is correct. You can strain out the hop sludge next time if you wish. It will make a clearer beer but your beer will be fine either way.
