Sez' Garlic repels BOTH Aphids and Spider Mites.

And Coriander/Cilantro repels Aphids.

They do but,

Garlic gets maybe 18 to 24" tall. Hops get 10 to 12' tall. They need to be right next to each other to really be effective from my experience.

I just pick the Jap beetles off on my daily visit and use a hose on the aphids. If the plants are good and healthy, the aphids do not seem to make much difference.
