i'd like to credit the author of this tutorial with the information and inspiration to build a kegerator.

i set out convinced i could fit three kegs and a co2 tank inside the fridge. three standard corny kegs would never fit and subbing one for a smaller 2.5 gal kegs didn't work. with the help of zazbnf on this site i discovered that a small taylor syrup tank would complete my project.

everything else was available commercially, but it was tough to track down one of those 1gallon tanks. taylor sells them new for $160, but i finally found one in near perfect shape for $45 + s/h on craigslist. if you're looking for these: be creative, be persistent and use the national craigslist search!

the small keg will be for club soda and messing around with carbonating green tea, juice and so on. the lid has been modified to include a carbonating stone that will be used for beer as well.

here is a rough chronology from beginning to end:

nicely done, tight fit. surprised you didn't put the tank on the outside. Looks great and has a tiny foot print.

How you liking you perlicks? I love mine.

thanks! i live in a small apt with my fiance, so minimizing footprint and giving her something from this were important.

this is my first draft setup, so i can't compare the perlicks to anything else. i got them since people seemed to all be behind them. they seem great so far.

i love your system. taking the amount of leak checking and whatnot i did for this tiny box and extrapolating to a project of that size, i can appreciate how much went into that. nice to have all that capacity, too!

Fantastic job!

One question: I have a similarly sized fridge manufactured by GE. I've taken some measurements with it and I think it should be possible to fit 3 cornys in the fridge, with one of them on the back hump being 2.5 or 3 gallons. What was the reason you couldn't do this? Does the CO2 tank take up too much space? What if the CO2 tank was on the outside, or a 20 oz paintball tank was used instead?

Just curious...

Thanks!

Jason

thanks!

placing the co2 tank outside would have created a lot of space inside, but would have made this much less attractive, which was a requirement i agreed to honor. if you use an external tank, i'd recommend getting a 20lb. the only reason to get a small tank is concern for size. the tank itself and fillings are dramatically cheaper pound-for-pound with a 20lb v a 5lb.
