I'm working on a Beligan Tripel recipe. According to Beersmith (and everything else I've ever read), tripel's typically have 25-38 IBUs. Most of the recipes I've seen typically use about 1-2 oz of Styrian Goldings, and not much else (for a 60 minute boil). According to beersmith, this gives me about half of the IBUs typical for the style. Here's the thing: I've looked at a lot of award winning recipes, and they only have the 1-2 oz of Styrian or a similar hops. When I'm making my recipe, should I go with the IBUs suggested by beersmith, or if i should use a similar amount of hops to the award-winning recipe. Any suggestions?
