Estimating the ABV based on lbs of extract...

I've been shopping around for beer recipe kits and some companies (AHS's commercial beer clones for example) don't put the expected ABV of the finished product. They don't give you the whole recipe but the do list the number of lbs of extract and steeping grains.

Is there a way to figure the ABV of the beer based on only the number of lbs of extract and steeping grains?

yes, 1 lb of LME gives you 37 gravity points so 2lbs gives you 72.
Add up the GP and divide by the number of gallons.

5 gallons with 7lbs LME: 37 * 7 = 259 / 5 = 51.8 = 1.052
Then you need to figure out your FG. 75% Attenuation is somewhat common so .25 * 52 = 13 = 1.013 FG.
Now 1.052 - 1.013 * 131 = 5.1% ABV.

DME is 45 points, so if your using DME adjust accordingly.
