I just had my first Orval yesterday, after having read about it for years, and my first take is "not for me". I did drink my half, but the band-aid-esque phenolic taste just does not agree with me.
I know there are many folks who love Orval, and I'm wondering if those who do simply don't taste band-aids, or did I get a bad bottle and should try again sometime?

I'm not at the point yet where I can appreciate those flavors. I also don't "get" sours or hefeweizens, while others love them. I think Orval tastes more like a barn than a band-aid, though. Either way, not for me!

mmmm, horse blanket!

I can imagine being able to appreciate horse blanket, just not band-aids.
I've got a Lambic aging, and when I tasted it in Sept at a year old, I got similar band-aid like flavors. I haven't dumped it yet. Maybe Brett isn't for me.
