Hop plants are either female (good) or male (bad for beer). You don't know what you will get even if the seeds actually germinate and grow. You also can't be sure who the dad was so you really don't know what you are getting. Have not heard of much success trying it this way.

Something fishy indeed! On the 2nd page, they list "10 Heirloom Simcoe Hops Seeds". Simcoe is a trademark/patented breed that, to my knowledge, is not available to anyone in rhizome or seed form. Seems odd that they would have it.

Your better off planting rhizomes. Better chance of getting the plants to grow and you will have female plants.

So the orginal question was have you used seeds for hops--

Yes but with seed generated hop plants you are three years behind the curve for any fruit (Umbel or floresence generation) Like bine propogation you lose time using any part of hops other than the rhizome.

Males are for breeding only- comfort yourselves gentlemen. We allow males to live and flourish because we want to cross them with successful females for a offspring best suited to our region.

That is how Amarillo and Simcoe came to be -- sexual reproduction rather than asexual reproduction.

The brewing aspect is more protein with seed production

It is a nice day when the females are the standard.
