SWMBO took a job out here so we landed in Winchester a couple months ago. So far I hate it here, seriously. But am trying to make an effort to adjust, meet people, try to sort out a few decent folks out of all the ******** in this part of the country. I thought it might be a good idea to meet some homebrewers given that beer usually makes us nicer people.

Since moving to Winchester I've realized I somehow ended up in one-of if not the most stuck up ********* suburb of the town - my bad.

Anyway, can anyone recommend a local homebrew club or just a few brewers in my area (or nearby) that are chill, good people? :mug:

Welcome to Mass and good luck adjusting to winter! I am South of Boston so cannot speak for Winchester but good luck with that.

Not sure where they meet, but the Boston Wort Processors may be near your area. http://wort.org/ Also the North Shore club...http://www.northshorebrewers.org/index.htm

Here's a list of all clubs in state in case there is one closer...but those two I listed and Merrimack Valley are probably the most established Boston North clubs. http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/community/clubs/find-a-homebrew-club/

And if you have not discovered it yet, one good thing about Winchester is they do have a Craft Beer Cellar franchise. http://www.craftbeercellar.com/winchester/ They are the smallest shop in the state though, know as the Annex. They carry around 200 craft beers as opposed to the flagship in Belmont which has over 1000. Highly recommend checking out the Belmont store, it's awesome. It's no BevMO in CA, but for this puritan state...pretty awesome!

Oh and if you brew outside, brew a lot in November because you don't want to be outside in the winter! Did a beer last January and it was 14 degrees out...wasn't fun!

Stick with it, we are not all a-holes...you will find your way!

Beer and Wine Hobby is in Woburn not far from you. I haven't been to too many other LHBS's but they always had whatever I needed. The prices weren't always the lowest, but it could be a good place to get started meeting other brewers.

As jdauria mentioned, the Boston Wort Processors are probably closest to you, I think. Most of the meetings are held in Somerville, Cambridge or Medford because that's where most club members live. The next meeting is coming up on Nov 12 in Somerville. For location specifics, I'd suggest emailing any of the officers.

I was also a transplant to Boston five years ago due to work, and getting active in a homebrew club was pretty helpful for me both socially as well as brewing process-wise. Best of luck.

That's the spirit!

I'm sensing a bipolar thing going on here, but do continue...

I doubt they break the top five. If you want to see stuck-up ********* suburb, see "Manchester By The Sea", North Andover, Wellesley, Belmont and Concord.

Nah. All the brewers I know are dicks...

Cheers! ;)
