I have a used bev-air kegerator. I believe the 20 year old, dial thermometer on it is junk. On the lowest setting it's cooling liquid to 36 degrees and runs way too much. Sooooo, I just ordered an ETC ranco controller to remedy this.

The question: Where should I place the probe? In the air, or in a container of water?

Thanks in advance

put it in the air. Ronco probes don't like getting wet. besides both water and air would be the exact same temperature anyway.

Mine sits in a hole of a cap on a White Labs yeast vial of water. Works fine. You could also tape or band a piece of foam to keg and slip the probe underneath it in contact with keg.
