hi people, I need your help!

I would like to make some cider for christmas but the problem is, iv never made it before..

basically i dont know what the hell im doin..

so if you could help me, i could do with a recipe and clear instructions, bear in mind im very bad at following instuctions

i also need to know what eqipment ill be needin

Thanks!

Allow me to ease your suffering.

Gather the following materials.
  1. two 1-gallon glass jugs
  2. two rubber stoppers for the jugs, with holes bored through them
  3. an airlock
  4. three feet of acrylic tubing siphon hose
  5. one gallon of apple cider with ABSOLUTELY NO PRESERVATIVES. Pasteurized is fine, though.
  6. One packet of wine yeast. I use Lavlin K1-1116 variety.

Once you've got your gear together, follow these instructions.
  1. Sterilize all of your jugs, tubes, bungs and airlocks with bleach.
  2. Rinse everything off so the bleach smell is gone.
  3. Pour your cider into your first jug- leave some room, as the initial fermentation will be quite vigerous.
  4. Hydrate the yeast according to the instructions on the packet
  5. Pitch the yeast into the cider.
  6. Insert an airlock into the bung, then place this in the mouth of the jug.
  7. Put some water in the airlock, filled to about half way.
  8. Let it sit for about two weeks. When you see a thick layer of sludge build up on the bottom of the jug, siphon the cider into the second jug.
  9. When the bubbles stop passing through the airlock and the cider is clear, it should be finished.
  10. Bottle.
  11. Let it sit for a couple of weeks.
  12. Drink.

That's about the simplest process I can give you

It's way too late to age the cider properly before the holidays. Make some now for next year.

ill just do it for whatever holiday happens to be after christmas

i was wondering how id do it from just juice??

to complex for my small brain? maybe.. id like to try tho

read it,

so im gonna need a big glass thing..otherwise known as a carboy

organic apple juice? somethin like that

dry montrached wine yeast..

think im gonna have to order these things from different places..crap

You can use any basic ale yeast, as well (Safeale 56 would probably work, I used Nottingham). You will want a carboy or Better Bottle. The apple juice - hit the grocery store. You can use either corn sugar (Ed's choice) or brown sugar (mine). Very flexibile. This is as easy a recipe as you will ever find.

And to think, i was gonna try to make whiskey.. bought the kit an everythin!

thanks for your help!

ill do my best

one more question if anyone can answer.. what temp is it best to ferment and carbonate it at?

Do you guys carbonate your cider? I've got some of that treetop stuff fermentin' and I don't know whether or not to carbonate it.

But yeah, if you're new, treetop all the way!

I'm carbing mine, but it was plenty tasty still. I'm actually using a little more priming sugar than usual to make it a little bit effervescent.
