I want to make mead. What is a basic recipe, that I can add fruit to, if I want to experiment to make a nice mead? I know how to brew beer, so relating the steps to that will help a lot. For instance, how long do i have to ferment it, boil it, bottle-age it, etc, any differences in yeast starting, etc.

JAO (Joe's Ancient Orange and Spice) Mead is HIGHLY suggested by many for your first mead. It's dead simple to make, ingredients are easy to find, and it makes an easy drinking mead that doesn't require you to wait a year (or 5) for it to age. You can find the recipe and a lot of discussion, covering most any of your questions, here:

Wasn't directed to me, but thanks for the wiki link, Bigkahuna, I've missed that one. Read everything on gotmead.com, but hadn't seen this one yet.
