I did my first AG this weekend. I'd been moving closer the last few weeks to the point where my last batch used 11 lbs of grain and then some DME to pad my OG due to low efficiency.

Well this weekend I just did the grain and decided to live with my OG whatever it was (and of course I forgot to measure it), but it came down to the decision to do a two-step boil, which I've done and don't necessarily care to do again due to the time requirements, or a concentrated boil. I went the concentrated route but I know that affects my efficiency as well since I don't have enpough water through the mash and sparge.

Long story short, I need a new pot. I've seen the Mega pots on NB and they look really good. Does anyone know where else I could find good, quality pots. Inexpensive, good , quality pots.

Thanks for any input.

Have a sam's club or costco close by? I got this kickaxs pot from Sam's recently, granted it might be at the small end of what you are looking at for AG.

Another suggestion, buy a turkey fryer even if you don't necessarily need or want one. They come with big pots, and sometimes the price for the fryer and the pot would be less than just buying a big pot.

This one is a little more spendy, but still cheaper than a big pot from NB or another online retailer, and it has a drain.

Lowes has two turkey fryers, one for $45 and one for ~$80, that both come with 30 qt pots. The more expensive one even comes with a spigot already attached.

Are you looking for Stainless (like the NB megapots) or just any larger pot?

Here are some big stainless pots I have found in my own researching for a pot. I have no idea if the sites are any good or not so you will have to decide.

Good luck, and hey, let me know if you get any of these and how they turn out! :tank:

So aluminum pots are generally fine as long as you don't scrub them and remove the oxidation right?

This site has massively inexpensive aluminum pots. I;ve heard they're OK to use with some precautions (boiling water in the pot before making a batch, not scrubbing clean, etc.). What do you think?

I believe it is a personal choice myself. The general opinion is split about 50/50 the way I see it. I was just assuming you were looking for SS because you referenced the NB Megapots which are ss.

My personal opinion fwiw...

I am not so concerned about the health aspects of Aluminum. I have cooked a few restaurants and from experience I can say that aluminum can effect the taste of the foods cooked in it, but I am also very susceptible to off flavors and smells. Some people do not notice the things I do.

Again, personal choice. Good Luck.
