I haven't yet, but really need to!

I haven't either... I've seen some pictures and what not, but don't know who the 'main' organizer is. That Yahoo groups thing they use is ancient.

Where you at in SF?

Anyone brewing this weekend? It's going to be gorgeous (as if you didn't already know).

Brewing a Frankenstein Farmhouse to use up some aging ingredients. Anyone else?

Haven't decided yet... we were originally going to have our daughter's 2 year birthday party but half the in-laws are sick with raging diarrhea. No thanks.

I will be drinking a lot of homebrew though... so that's a plus.

I thought South Dakota was a made up state, like West Virginia...

Learn something new every day!

Anyone brewing this weekend? Going to be pretty nice... think I'll do a MO/??? SMaSH, just because, I guess.

What's up all? Just stopping by for the first time to say hi. Live in Sioux falls. 2nd time brewing right now with a cream alea in the fermenter

Sorry... but there can be only one Derek from Sioux Falls here and it will be me.

I declare a duel.

Pistols at dawn.

Who's Dawn?

Such a hostile environment. And alright you can be the only Derek here....but then you must call me by Derek the greater haha

There's an easy way to decide who is greater... you from the East side or the West side?

I feel out numbered here. we got Reptile Gardens, Mount Rushmore, Deadwood, The Black Hills, Bear Country, and Sitting Bull Caves. y'all got sunflowers and wind! suck on that, you east river buttholes! woohhoooo!

CSB:

Back in the early '90s, there was a ballot initiative that proposed raising the bet limits in Deadwood casinos from $5 to $100. Kevin Costner wanted to build a big casino there, but wouldn't move forward until the limits were raised. I was living in Sioux Falls at the time, and it was a very high-profile issue.

Most voters west of the Missouri River were in favor of it, and most east river against. But since about 70% of the state's population lives east river, the numbers just weren't there and the initiative failed.

(I believe the bet limits were successfully raised years later.)

Shortly after the election, there was some fun sniping between the editors of the Rapid City Journal and the Sioux Falls Argus Leader. IIRC, there were even some disgruntled west river people suggesting that the west part of the state secede from the east. The paper in Rapid loved pointing out the importance of the Black Hills and Badlands tourism dollars, and so on... The rhetoric was entertaining.

Then some pundit did the numbers and pointed out that the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls generated more revenue than the ENTIRE Black Hills & Badlands tourism.

Those were some fun times. It's good to see that rivalry is still alive. :D

it is there. I still have major issues with west river people as well. I remember all that Costner nonsense. I also remember running into him in Deadwood when I was 18 or 19. he was a total dripping d!ckhole. complete with the whole, "Do you know who I am?!?" I told him that I did and to go flocc himself. bet that's a story he never tells. either way, I've never been to the Empire Mall. but I have grown up in the Black Hills and seen first hand the amount of people from other states pouring in and dropping tons of cash to see Mount Rushmore, Sturgis Rally, Deadwood Casinos, the Badlands, Wall Drug, Reptile Gardens, Crazy Horse, Bear Country, Jewel Cave, Crystal Cave, Wind Cave, The Mammoth Site, Evens Plunge just to name a few of the tourist spots. of course some butthole is gonna "prove" to the general public that "that side" is nothing more than a bunch of hype. the east/west river rivalry goes farther back than my great grandparents. it always has and always will be there. now if you were to use Mall of America as the example, I might have actually believed it. something else I can say about the rivalry (and this holds true with the Pierre kids), every punk I ever met from Sioux Falls (and Pierre) have been totally arrogant with that ridiculous rivalry crap when 95% of the Rapid City kids have been more than welcoming. and it's less windy.

My brother lives in Rapid and my parents in Sioux Falls. It's fun to watch the east-west rivalry between him and my dad when we all get together.

It's like the Minneapolis vs. St. Paul thing here. I see a lot of ribbing between the two groups at work. :off:
