CO2 Injection into Fermenter

Has anyone ever thought of or tried injecting CO2 into their fermenter throughout fermentation with the purpose of eliminating/minimizing oxidation? If you have done this or even thought of it, please share your experiences. I know that CO2 is a byproduct of fermentation activity already; but could it really hurt anything to ensure that the headspace is void of beer spoiling oxygen.
 
Before the onset of active fermentation oxygen is necessary for yeast growth. After fermentation begins, the CO2 produced by the yeast will purge the headspace. Injection of CO2 into the primary is absolutely unneccesary. Some people do like to purge their secondaries and cornies before racking into them, though
 
Oxygenating your wort before fermentation starts is a big plus. Pre-filling the fermenter with CO2 would partially defeat that action.
 
Consider, half of the sugars become CO2 during fermentation. If you started with 8 lbs of malt, you'll get three pounds of CO2, that's well over 200 gallons of gas. Enough to turn a small fermentation cabinet into a hazard.
