The difference is only slight. Compare it to a Ford Focus and a Ferrari...they both get you there...;)

Actually, the liquids are more the specialty type. They are for making a specific style. As long as you use wheat malt you can make a "wheat" beer with any yeast, but you can't make a German-style Hefe Weizen without a real German Hefe.:D
 
Dry yeasts tend to be more general purpose, they don't need starters and have a higher cell count per package.

They do a good job but if you need to ad a flavour from the yeast then I guess liquid would be the way to go.
