I was in the middle for mashing yesterday and had to complete the mash and place the wort into a bucket in the fridge as I had to go to work. I checked with the LHS and they stated that the boil will kill off any problems. I intend on boiling the wort very soon, but for now there is nothing growing on the top when I peak in. Has this happened to anyone? Will this effect the beer? Should I just toss it out and start over?

Not a problem, boiling will kill anything that grows. Just don't wait too long, as enough bacteria, even dead, could affect the final taste.

My common practice is to mash and sparge the night before and then boil the next morning whenever I decide to get up after leaving the wort at room temp. I wonder what effects this has but works fine for me.
