Here's a real novice question:

I'm currently making my first wine, a pyment actually, and am going to final rack this week.
Can a drill-mounted paint stirrer be used instead of a wine whip for degassing?
Thanks for any help/suggestions you can offer.
 
Just chip the big pieces of old paint off of it!!!

Really, if you are going to be making lots of "kit" wines, the best investment you can make is a vacuum pump of some sort.
