A local homeowner was advertising pick your own hops on craigslist, so I couldn't resist. The vines were supposedly planted 30+ years ago, and had taken over the fence. The variety is unknown, but quite large and aromatic (citrusy). I picked a pound for $10 and headed home. The cones were just starting to brown, and some were even past their prime. I'm going to dry and freeze them, but I'll make a tea first to see how they rank as far as bitterness goes. At first I thought they might be Sunbeam, but the leaves were still very dark green. I don't expect a solid ID from a couple of pictures, but if someone has any ideas as to what they might be, or as what they are definitely not, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.
