I picked up a 6 pack of cherry porter from the specialty beer store tonight, with the idea of making my cherry lambic bbq sauce with the porter instead of the lambic and smoking some ribs this weekend.

Do any of you have other recipe ideas for this beer?

I drank one tonight, and it was OK. I can see how it would make a great base for a sauce or something. But, it sure is not something I would drink a lot of. I'm a huge fan of a good Porter, but I just don't like fruit in my beer (other than lambics).

I made a porter cake with my cherry porter. Dark, tasty, fruity, complex... cake!

1# flour
1/2# currants
1/2# raisins
1/4# candied citrus peel
12 oz porter/stout
1/2# butter
3/4# brown sugar
4 eggs
2 tbs cinnamon
2 tbs nutmeg
1tbs baking soda

Mix fruits, butter, and dry ingredients except baking soda. Mix liquid ingredients and soda. Add liquid in dry and mix. bake at 350F for 2.5-3h.
