temperature controller

I have a fridge that I wanted to turn into a fermentation chamber and was wondering what the best digital temperature controller would be? Also, where could I get said controller.

Any of the major online homebrew stores have them, you can usually get the digital for under 100 dollars, and the analog for around 60. Try Austin homebrew, more beer, or northern brewer.

Man prices have gone up..... I paid 69 each for the 2 I have, alas that was years ago.

you can get the bare ranco ETC controller for around $50 if you supply the cords and wire it up. They come with a pretty decent instruction sheet.

if you can play yourself off as a contractor you might find a local wholesale place to sell you an un-wired one for about $60. Check the yellow pages for "industrial controls" places. I bought both of mine this way.

I used G on a freezer conversion.
$63.46 for their digital unit.

I use a analog Johnson and it works perfectly. It's only drawback is it wont control a heater.

This is not true. You can remove the cover of the Johnson analog controller and move the lead to the internal switch to the opposite terminal. This will cause the controller to switch on with a fall in temperature rather than a rise. It's a double throw switch inside. The second terminal is concealed with a small rubber plug which you can very easily pull out. Simply move the wire and screw to the opposite terminal. This mod takes about 1.5 minutes total.

I have several of these in addition to the digital model and they work very well. Not as versatile as the digital, but reliably gets the job done and they are considerably less expensive.

Cool, I don't need to heat anyway but it's good to know.
