Hello all!!

New to the forum and homebrewing.

I bottled my first batch here last week and used a bottle wand.

Reading through the posts, everyone states that the wand will displace the correct amount of liquid leaving a perfect amount of headspace.

All of my bottles have perfectly uniform headspace but it is 2"

I am using standard long neck bottles.

I'd like to be at the recommended 1- 1 1/2

What can I do about this?

I'm using the spring loaded style bottle wand.

Thank you for your input!!

:drunk:

Oh I'm not terribly worried.

Carbonation seems a bit low for 11 days but it is an English style bitter so......

I do fill the bottles to the top before pulling the wand.
Still leaves 2"

My english Ale was a full 21 days at 72 degrees before I got the carbonation I wanted.

What temp are you conditioning at?

Are using a regular (I think 3/8") wand or one of those "Fast Fill" kits with 1/2" valve/tubing/wand? The larger diameter wand will displace more volume. If you want you can always press the tip against the inside of the neck to get a little more liquid in there.

I'm using the smaller diameter wand.

I think I will just try pressing it against the neck next time as Chris suggested.

Thanks all!!
