Oxygenation, is a filter necessary?

I am about to get an Oxynator oxygenation kit (the ones the use the disposable red tanks) and I am debating whether it is necessary to use a sterile inline filter with it. Does anyone use one of these set ups without a filter? Have you ever had issues doing it this way?

Isn't pure oxygen going to be sterile anyways?

I use one and I don't have a filter. Actually, now I use a simple Venturi but no filter is not a problem on either form of aeration. Take your normal sanitation practices into play and you should be fine. Those filters are for the ones that have to sit there a while to work, like aquarium pumps and stuff.

mine came with the filter so I use it . Does it do anything I haven't a clue

Lots swear by them to filter potential bottle contaminants. I don't.

I use a disposable tank and have a filter but didn't find it until the other day. I have batches without using the filter and don't have any off flavors but will use the filter for now on because I feel it is better to be safe than sorry.

And those filters are cheap so why not invest in one?
