Brewed up a 5 gallon batch of porter. Going to do the same recipe this Sunday but want to make this a vanilla porter. when do i add the vanilla beans? Most advice is during secondary fermentation. Do I split the bean and just add seeds? Or do I split the bean and add everything?

Split the bean, scrape insides out. put all of it into a small bowl of vodka. let it sit to sterilize it for about 2 hours. dump all into secondary.

ok thanks...does anyone have an idea about using one or two beans for a 5 gallon batch. I don't want to overpower the beer with vanilla.

Rev I would love to be there but gotta work. Thanks for the advice!! I will check out the website.
