Ingredients
-----------------
6 lbs. Light Wheat DME
2 lbs. Wheat Malt
8 oz. Chocolate Wheat (375-450L)
8 oz. Special B
8 oz. Crystal 40
4 oz. Crystal 120
5 oz. Carafe Special II
4 oz. Flaked Oats
7 oz. Honey
2 oz. Vanguard Hops 4.6%AA (Whole)
WLP300 Yeast (1L starter)
Hop Schedule
------------------
60 min - 1.5 oz
20 min - 0.5 oz
Mashed grains at 154 for 60 mins. Raised volume to ~3 gallons, boil for 60 mins. Chilled to 80 before transferring to fermenter and raising to final volume of ~5.5 gallons. I snapped my hydrometer so I don't know what my O.G. was, but I calculated it to be ~1.06-1.064.
In primary for 8 days. I would have liked to let it sit there or in secondary for longer, but ran out of time.
I served this at my wedding last weekend and called it a Wheat Porter for lack of a better style description. We named it "For Richer or For Porter". It seemed like a real hit and I really like it. It's got the familiarity of a chocolatey Porter, but the WLP300 gives it a special aroma and flavor.
