Background- All Grain Brewer with a several brews under out belts.

Question- I'm doing some small batch stuff from Northern Brewer just for kicks. The instructions say to steep for 10 minutes as your heating 1.5 gallons of water then bring it to boil. It doesnt specify what temp? Any suggestions? It's really a small amount of specialty grains, not sure how much exactly, again, it's for a gallon sized brew.

They don't mention a temperature because it really doesn't matter all that much. You are steeping to draw out color and flavor and these will come out somewhere between tapwater temperature and boiling. I'd prefer to have you steep at 152 just because that is a typical mash temperature if you should desire to go all grain and trying to hit that temp while steeping is just good practice.
