danby kegerator problems

I have recently inherited a Danny kegerator. I was very excited so I went and bought all the fixings to start kegging, and I have a Belgian ipa fermenting to be my first keg.

I have read online about this unit. Nothing but issues.

The compressor kicks on when it feels and 6 hrs later my bottle of beer will be room temperature. It does get cold, just doesn't stay that way.
I bought a temp control for it and it seemed to work for a bit, but again, it returned warm. I'm glad my keg was not full in the unit.

I have read I can hardwire the temp control to the relay to bypass the existing thermostat. It sounds like a fair plan that should work.

Anybody have this issue or know how to go about fixing the problem. I dont want a non workiNg , empty kegerator sitting in my room. It tis a sad sight!

This is strange, and I'd also like some input on this since I own one. I've had mine for a few years now and never had an issue though. I've always used a temp controller though, so it probably hasn't stressed out the compressor as much.

I unplugged the little stock thermometer from the harness and pluged it back in. The compressor kicked right on. I did this several times with the same result. I'm thinking if I put a wire in both the connections on the male harness, the compressor will run non stop. But if I have the unit plugged into a temp control.....this could work I think. I just thought of that.

my compressor moans evry once in a while.... consistently cold, however.

I do remember hearing that the stock thermostats on the danby kegerators are junk.

The stock thermostat should have three wires, one of them is ground (I found out which by following them back to the compressor. Mine were black and white with green as ground.)

If you connect the black and white together (on mine, yours may vary) the compressor should come on for good. You can then use a controller like the Johnson A419 to regulate power to the plug to control the temperature. The ground wire can be disregarded.

I used the jumper wire and it seemed to do the trick. The temp led blimks EE but the compressor kicks on and I have my temp control thermostat in a cup of water with a thermometer. my temp is set at 34 and the thermometer is reading 44 so there is a ten degree difference but that is better than not working at all.

SO do you want to connect the black and white wires in the back panel near the compressor?

As long as they are hot then you can jump them wherever, I did mine in the fridge because they were easier to get to there. Just connected them with a wire cap.

All you are doing is removing the switch that turns the compressor on and off, with an external controller you would be doing that at another point is all.

I know this is an old post but when you said it worked do you mean you wired in a new temp controller like the Johnson one? Johnson A419
