So a friend and I are doing a 60 gallon brew. We are planning on doing 12 gallon post boil. Our mash tuns are not big enough to do all the the mashing in one tun. One mash tun will have 7 gallon grain bill and the other a 5 gallon grain bill.

Should we measure the grain out for 5 and 7 gallons? Or should we measure it out for 12 gallons and mix the grain up and split between the mash tuns?

To make this simple, I divide my grain bill in half when I have to split between two MLTs. Makes the water calculations easier.

Yeah it would be easier to do half. But I have a 15 gallon mash tun, and my friend has a 10 gallon mash tun. We are trying to do it with 5 boils and the max he could put in for the grain bill with 1.25qts/lb. Otherwise we would have to do six boils.

So you suggest to measure the grain out separately for each tun and not mix?
