Hi,

Quick qestion. Could you use a new oak barrel for the MLT ?
Besides being nice to look at, wood has an excellent insulating capacity,...

Just wondering.

Cheers,
walther

If you have to many extra wood barrels, I would love to take them off your hand for free in order to oak age, or do wine. But as a MLT no way, your a million times better off using a cooler, easy to clean , and move.

Only use a barrel for a nice wood aged beer or wine or something. Besides i thought barrels were really expensive?

Thank you for the quick replies,

Cleaning may be an issue. But I think I read somewhere once that wood has an anti bacterial/fungi property on its own. Thats apparently why you can use wood utensils in the kitchen. Don't you think boiling water and maybe som cleaning agent would be enough?

Cheers,
walther

(saw a new 50L for the equivalent of 150$)

Cleaning isn't the only issue. Letting an oak barrel dry out between uses will cause leaks that are more or less impossible to stop.

ok, ok, I will stick with stainless steel or a kewl picnic thingy :)

Cheers,
walther
