Hi Guys, this is my first post. I am very excited, and this is my second batch. I am doing a West Coast Dry hopped IPA, and the instructions say wait one week then transfer to secondary to dry hop for 10 days. That seems a bit short for primary. Does that sound right?

The short answer is 'when your beer is done fermenting'. This will vary depending on all sorts of things (the type of beer, the yeast you used, temperature etc) but I usually wait around 2 weeks before transferring to secondary for dry hopping or adding fruit and 3 weeks if I am not transferring to a secondary before I keg.

If you really want to know if you are good to transfer, take a gravity reading over a 3 day period and if it doesn't change then your beer is most likely done fermenting and you are safe to transfer.
