Hello -

I am working on an IPA recipe and it calls for .75lbs Wheat DME. The problem is my local brew store doesn't have any Wheat extract. I did pick up a pound of Muntons Wheat Malt, would this work as a substitue?

Thanks!
-Josh

I'd just substitute some light DME (or whatever kind of DME you're using for the recipe).

As far as I know wheat malt needs to be mashed, so that wouldn't work unless you were planning on doing a partial mash with it.

At .75 lbs, that won't be a big deal to leave out. Sure, it will come out a bit different, but then you can call it yours. I've often steeped wheat in my wheat beers, but I don't know if that really adds much of anything. You could try that route.

Yes, it will work. Just do a mini-mash with the wheat malt, it can convert itself.
