What software, if any, do people use for recipe formulation or other purposes and why? I run linux so my options are limited, though I can boot into window$ if need be, so I use the open source qbrew and love it. Very easy to use and customizable, though it's not very feature-heavy. Here's a printout of a recipe summary that I'll paste into my brew log.

I take it you're not aware that there is a dedicated software section on this forum?

Although it's wiser to continue the discussion there rather than here, I will just mention that I run Beersmith in linux using WINE (oh, the irony) and am very happy with it. None of the free brewing software packages ever impressed me at all compared to the 'big names' like beersmith/beertools pro.

oops, didn't know that thanks. Is there any way to move the thread w/o reposting?
