I have some rasberry ginger mead that I intend to age for a long time and was wondering if the plastic champaigne style corks are good or a bunch of crap for aging. I'm up in the air about sparkling vs. non at this point.

From what I've heard on the forums and what I heard from the man who taught me (he's been making mead for 15+ years) plastic corks are pretty much crap for long term aging. All of the best 60 year old wines tend to use natural cork and wax. So,when I want to age for over 2 years I use top quality #9 natural corks and wax the top of the bottle with beeswax.

I've been doign some reading and some people just crown cap the bottles. Would an O2 reducing crown cap with wax hold up? I hesitate to buy a corker, but maybe the LHBS could lend me one...I'll have to check.
