Hey new here, (sorry for any typos I just finsihed 2 bombers of fat tire and a sixer of sierra nevada pale ale)

How long does yeast last at room temp? Just a basic ale yeast.

I've had a couple packets of dry yeast sitting on my shelf for about a year now and i want to brew this weekend.

Yeast should generally be refrigerated. Dry yeast is pretty hardy, but after a year it's probably in pretty rough shape. I'd make a starter with it, just to make sure. You don't want to pitch it and find out that it's not active.

either a starter, or 'proof' the yeast a few hours in advance. If it doesn't proof, its dead. Game over man, game over!

if it did sit at 70F and didn't have any temperature extremes, its most likely still viable.
