I Am about to put my vanilla bean bourbon porter into secondary and the recipe says to add the vanilla bean at this point. My question is do I sanitize the bean before putting it into secondary. Do I put in boiling water for a specific period of time?

Put the vanilla bean in a small container, and splash bourbon on top, coat it thoroughly. Bourbon will sanitize it nicely, and you can dump all of it in :)

agreed, split the bean down the length of it. Put it in a small container with a little bourbon. Let it soak for a day or 3 and pour it all in.
