Home depot sells a 5 gal bottle of water for $12, in a plastic bottle that appears to be similiar to a better bottle (the plastic is PETE, with #1 recycling code). I'm thinking of picking one up, using the water to brew and keeping the bottle as a secondary, or a primary for a smaller batch. Would there be any reason(s) not to do this?

Primary: Edwort's Apfelwein (4.5 weeks)
Secondary: nothing
Bottled: Holiday Ale

I use two for my apfelwein fermentors. They work just fine with the orange carboy caps. Just make sure there are no scratches on the inside and you'll be fine.
