Some friends gave me a starter scoby in a sealed jar about a month ago, but I got busy and haven't yet had a chance to actually put any sugar/tea into it. The liquid is very pale tan and there's no mold or anything like that. Is it still safe for me to start the kombucha at this point? Or has it been sitting too long?

I don't know anything about this stuff, so any advice is helpful. :)

It is most likely fine, give it a try you have very little to lose; if it tastes terrible throw it out.

UGH! I've got 2 big jars with HUGE mothers in them. I think they both got too acidic and died!
