What, exactly, are "MFL" fittings?

I have seen them as options for ball lock connectors, instead of barbed fittings.

Are there any advantages to using them? Are they better than barbed fittings?

The main advantage of MFL is that if you frequently change styles of beer and serving pressure changes from one style to the next you can swap out a shorter hose for a longer one to rebalanced your kegerator. If you will always be serving at the same carbonation levels regardless of style it's no big deal.

Or switch between home brew and sankey easily. I did this when I first got my kegerator up and running, and was waiting on beer to condition in secondary. Now that I brew more, I just unscrewed the lines from the sankey and screwed in my ball lock connections.

Now I need more cornies and a bigger kegerator... :)
